Character Name: Chrom
Canon: Fire Emblem
Canon Point: Pre-end game / before confronting Grima
Background/History: Fire Emblem: Awakening | Chrom’s page
Personality:
From a perspective, Chrom is of royalty material; he’s a take-charge kind of person, as well as a direct and committed person. He has all of the qualities of a leader and business wise, he’s set on about protecting his people and siblings, especially his older sister Emmeryn. His status as a prince and his commanding personality can also suggest that he may intimidate people just a bit, as mentioned by Olivia in their supports. Because of this, Chrom seems like a rather cool, collected and mature person.

For the most part, that is correct, but there is another side to this coin.
Chrom, to be perfectly honest, can be a bit odd himself. While it is true he does have a mature and calm side to him, the prince wouldn’t hesitate to bring down his sword on those who reek of vileness and pure evil. He’s someone who seeks justice, a person who won’t stop until that justice is received. He’s not as over the top as his nephew, Owain, but one could tell that he truly cares about bringing evil down, and to make sure his people and loved ones are not harmed either.

Chrom truly cares about his people and the innocent. For example, if any villagers are lost in the Paralouge episodes, he will blame himself and mourn for not being enough to help them. After all, his strength comes from everyone he meets, no matter how little the impact on him is. He wants to be a great leader like his elder sister was, but while follow a similar and peaceful past, Chrom is certainly no pacifist like Emmeryn was. As stated, he is the type of person to fight back if he needs to. He knows he’s not like his sister, so all he can do is make sure his people are happy and safe. Her death devastated him, and it took him some time to get over it. Her return and memory lost saddened him, though he wanted to protect her and keep her safe – just like in the past.

Of course, Emmeryn isn’t the only sister he looks out her. Chom cares about his younger sister, Lissa, a lot, trying to protect her from the dangers of the war and worrying about her when she tries to sneak off to spy on the enemy in their B support. He gives her some advice when she expresses how she doesn’t feel like a princess, which was to go ask everyone in camp for advice on how to be a better one. He helps her realize that she is a great princess, even if she isn’t perfect or like her elder sister, and that she makes people happy with her presence. Chrom will always look out for his siblings no matter what, making sure they keep out of danger and feel good about themselves along the way.

As states by Walhart himself, Chrom is someone who follows the Path of Kings – someone who lives with and for others. Chrom himself had stated that his comrades give him his power and strength and that’s all he really needs. He doesn’t need to conquer lands or slay innocents to feel that way. All he needs is the bonds he formed with others – no matter how big or small they may be. He believes that the stronger the bind between someone is, the more strength they receive.

Chrom has a lot of bonds with people, but his strongest is the one he shares with Robin, trusting them even after their origins are revealed because he knows that Robin isn’t Grima and that Robin is their own person. He believes in them and nothing could change his mind about it. He even states to a possessed Robin in the prologue, Invisible Threads, that it wasn’t their fault they killed him. His bond with his daughter, Lucina, is also strong. When she tells him she’ll leave after the future is saved to spare him trouble, he disagrees with her and asks that she stay by his side since she always has a place there. He’s still a new father, but something like this shows he won’t be so bad.

As stated, Chrom seems like the mature and calm type, but there are two sides of every coin. In his supports with a female Robin shows that he can be a little dense and a bit too blunt, stating that he never even saw her as a woman since he never thought she would be the type of care about her appearance. His denseness seems to show in their B support conversations, when he walks in and at first doesn't realize she’s naked (and then having to ask “if there was any special reason why she didn't have clothes on”). He can also get easily embarrassed, which shows in the after math of him walking in on Robin and when he recruits Inigo, where he and Olivia get embarrassed over their shyness (with Chrom saying “Would you two stop it already? Now I'm the one who's getting embarrassed...”). Chrom is also known to getting annoyed a bit easily, such as when Henry kept making puns and jokes during a Risen attack and Chrom suggesting that he “silences Henry himself”.

His way of expressing his feelings can get a bit awkward as well. He’s not too good at expressing romantic feelings (“Look, I know this is sudden and I'm coming on like a wyvern in heat.”). Of course, no matter who he marries he’ll love them with all of his heart, complimenting them and telling them that he loves them if they trigger an event tile together. He also knows how to make a joke or two, though they’re not usually that funny, such as when he made a joke about kicking Olivia out if she wasn’t a good dancer.

Chrom, even if he’s unsure of it, is seen as someone who can follow in his sister’s footsteps. He isn’t a tyrant like his father, for he truly cares about his people and loved ones. He may not be a perfect person, but he is someone anyone can trust.

At the time, there was little he could do to prevent his sister’s death. Sometimes, he would think about the things he could have done to help save her, and with each thought he had the more useless he felt. He could have saved her. He could have prevented it.

Chrom sat on the bed, hunched forward as his thoughts got deeper and deeper. Could he ever compare himself to Emmeryn? While their goals were similar, their ways of reaching it were different. Emmeryn would never raise a blade against someone; she preferred to handle any conflict in a pacifistic way. That was something Chrom couldn’t do if the conflict was strong enough.

Still, even if the differed a bit, the love Chrom had for his people were like Emmeryn’s. He would do anything to make sure they stayed safe. That’s really all that mattered.

He looked over to his sleeping wife, a smile crossing his face. He had a family to look after too - his sister and now his wife and child. He wanted to be there for all of them, and no matter what, he would make sure of it.

There was a gentle knock on his door, “Milord, you are needed.”

Chrom was silent as he stood up, making his way to the door and opening it. In order to change the future, he had to work hard himself. And that’s what he would do.
